So sit back, light the fire, grab the pop corn, snuggle nice & cosy and add the following films to your watch list this Christmas.
At the top of the tree for us is the hilarious 2003 comedy ‘Elf’ starring Will Ferrell and Zooey Deschanel. Directed by Jon Favreau, this movie tells the story of an adopted Elf ‘Buddy’ as he sets off in full elf uniform on an adventure to New York to find his real father. Chaos and calamity soon follow with a huge sprinkle of Christmas cheer and laugh out loud moments.
A great film to enjoy with all the family that has the meaning and values of Christmas installed throughout.
2. Home Alone
The 1990 Christmas classic that shot a young Macaulay Culkin to instant fame and Christmas cult status. Directed by Chris Columbus and also starring Catherine O’ Hara, Joe Pesci, Daniel Stern plus John Candy.
This comedy classic is also backed by a fantastic sound track by the one and only John Williams (Star Wars, Super Man, ET, Jurassic Park, Harry Potter etc!).
An hilarious, exciting & heart warming tale for all the family to enjoy – assuming the children are old enough not to get spooked by the calamitous, crooked burglar duo Harry & Marv!
3. The Muppet Christmas Carol
This movie sees Jim Henson’s The Muppet’s starring alongside Michael Caine in a retelling of Charles Dickens Christmas Classic: A Christmas Carol – whats not to love!
A guilty pleasure watch for the adults and an entertainingly enjoyable experience for little ones of all ages, this for me, is one of Henson’s finest works with his charming & comedic puppets.
Another film with beautiful tones that shines through the true value of Christmas with some fun-loving songs thrown in too, which all aids to bring the Christmas spirit to the home.
A good one to watch on Christmas eve so you can sing-a-long with Kermit the Frog as he recites “Only 1 more sleep till Christmas”!
4. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
Directed by Larry Roemer & Kizo Nagashima and wonderfully narrated by Burl Ives as the loveable Sam the Snowman, this 1964 stop motion Rankin & Bass Christmas TV special, is an old time master-piece.
Sure technology in Stop Motion films has moved on a great deal since its release, but this classic tale is still a timeless must watch for the family to enjoy year on year.
5. The Grinch
This 2018 release directed by Scott Mosier and Yarrow Cheney, sees Benedict Cumberbatch ( Sherlock Holmes, Doctor Strange) voice Dr Seuss’ cynical grump The Grinch from his classic tale ‘How The Grinch Stole Christmas’.
Narrated by Pharrell Williams, this modern day CGI version is an outright funny and heart warming story which is a great addition to your Christmas watch list!
A wonderful way to introduce your children to Dr Seuss too if they are not already familiar with his books.

- Dr Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (1966)
